Innovation Challenge Official Rules

City of STEM (“Sponsor”) have created the City of STEM Innovation Challenge - Sustainable Solutions (“Challenge”) to encourage students currently enrolled in grades 6-8, who are legal residents of, and currently residing in, Los Angeles County to create a team of 1 to 5 students (“Student Teams”) to choose a goal and apply it to a problem within Los Angeles. What problem can be solved? What new technology or innovation can be created now to address this problem? The City of STEM Innovation Challenge – Sustainable Solutions asks students to unlock inventive ideas to solve real-world problems and transform Los Angeles. The Challenge inspires kids to explore their capabilities and imagination and strengthen their STEM skills, preparing them to tackle today’s challenges or tomorrow’s opportunities.

The Challenge commences on or about 9:00 am PT on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 and ends with final voting by 1:00 pm PT on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Limit 1 entry per Student Team. Grand Prize winners must be available to travel around Los Angeles for a day, no later than July 26, 2026. Information regarding the Challenge is available at www.cityofstem.org/innovation-challenge (“Challenge Website”).

Video submissions are due by 11:59 pm PT on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
