Icon Award

The City of STEM Icon Award is given to a current Los Angeles resident who inspires young people and exhibits excellence in promoting and advancing STEM through teaching, funding, or facilitating programs in Los Angeles County.

Icon Award 2026 Recipient

Congratulations to Sherri Francois for being selected as the 2026 City of STEM Icon Award recipient. 

Sherri Francois

Sherri Francois is a social impact leader expanding access to STEM education, technology careers, and innovation pathways for youth and young adults in underinvested communities across Los Angeles. She serves as Chief Impact Officer of SoLa Impact and Executive Director of The SoLa Foundation. Sherri founded the SoLa Tech & Entrepreneurship Center powered by Riot Games, located at The Beehive, a first-of-its-kind hub providing free STEAM education, digital skills training, and career pathways for youth and young adults from historically under-resourced communities. Since 2022, these programs have served more than 7,300 participants through certifications, fellowships, and workforce training that connect local talent to the innovation economy.

 

In 2026, Sherri is leading the opening the SoLa AI and Entertainment Center powered by Live Nation, which will serve an additional 1,500 youth and young adults annually. She also leads scholarship initiatives that have awarded more than $2 million to first-generation college students. Prior to her work in social impact, Sherri was an Emmy-nominated television news producer. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
