Joe Larson, the 3D Printing Professor

Solving problems with 3D printing. 3D printing can be used to solve everyday problems quickly and easily. But before you can solve problems with 3D printing, you have to solve the problems of 3D printing. Because every manufacturing process has its limitations, 3D printing has some problems that need to be addressed. In this presentation Joe Larson, the 3D printing professor, will share with you how he overcame 3D printing's inability to make Legos by creating a whole new building block system called PrintABloks, that he then used to build solutions to other problems.

Panelist Polly Hall, M.A. is an award winning musician, podcast host and music educator. Claudia Vera Rosas, M.A. is the Program Director of Matilija Escuela Bosque, a nature based, indigenous knowledge and art centered program. Along with Nataly Benitez, M.A. an adjunct professor at Pacific Oaks College who also works as expanded learning coordinator for Vaughn Next Century Learning Center in Pacoima.

Using examples from his own work, Johan shows that it's possible to make interesting projects with unusual materials. Doing the simplest thing that could possibly work sometimes works surprisingly well, and having constraints forces you to think sideways to come up with unique solutions. The projects include his dog speedometer, drawing and labelling machines, very very homemade 3D printer, and a perpetual pendulum wave.
